2nd Annual Music-a-thon

Saturday January 23

9:00a – 9:00p*

This is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year and it’s less than a week away!  Last year we raised over $7,000 to support Tantasqua student musicians and we hope to match that this year!

This year some of the fun activities will be:

  • Zumba
  • ballroom dancing
  • yoga
  • ukulele clinic
  • evening ending dance with karaoke

Have your music student grab their band instrument(s) and warm up those voices. They’ll have a whole day of fun and might even be lucky and win a prize!

*If a student can participate for only part of the day due to a scheduling conflict like ski club, that’s okay.  Everyone is welcome to attend for as long as they can whether it’s 2 hours or 12 hours.

Student Pledge incentive…

  • Raise $50 in pledges and enter a drawing to win a pair of movie tickets.
  • Raise $100 and enter an additional drawing to win an iTunes OR Google play gift card.
  • Raise $200+ and enter an additional drawing to win a season pass ticket to Six Flags New England.

Please get those permission slips turned in by this Thursday, January 21.  All documents and forms are available on the TMA Music-a-thon web page, along with more information.

If you have any questions please contact Mary O’Coin or Sue Davey

Indoor Archery Tournament

February 19 – 21 all day

We’re looking for volunteers to help with food preparation, sales and service at the USA Indoor Archery Competition being held at the High School.  No special skills or experience are needed.  Please take a look at our volunteer links and I’m sure you’ll find something that you’ll enjoy doing.  We would especially be interested in hearing from you if you have ServSafe Certification.

Please contact Rom Portwood for more information.

TMA Meeting Summary

The TMA met on Wednesday January 13th.  We covered:

  • changes to TMA funding policies to include lesson subsidies and equitable activity fee subsidies
  • progress in planning the Music-a-thon
  • progress in planning concessions for the Archery tournament
  • the status of the Tantasqua Music apparel store and an appeal for a new apparel coordinator
  • discussion of the Play With the Band triathlon in May
  • the need for CORIs on file for all volunteers who interact with students at our fundraising events

Central District Festivals

The 2016 Central District Senior High Festival Concert was held at Mechanics Hall in Worcester on Saturday January 16th.  Fourteen musicians from TRHS participated in this wonderful event which brings together the top musicians from the Central District of Massachusetts.  Challenging selections were performed brilliantly by the Central District Concert Band, Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble and Chorus.

Nine of the TRHS musicians will audition for the All-State Festival on Saturday January 23rd at Shrewsbury High School.

Auditions for the Central District Junior High Festival Concert will be held on Saturday January 30th at Grafton High School.  The Junior High Festival will be held on Saturday April 30th at Leominster High School.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Music-a-thon needs volunteers throughout the day, and also some donations:

  • $5-$10 gift cards (e.g. DD, Cumberland Farms etc. for game/door prizes)
  • Desserts for dinner
  • Candy for games
  • Balloons
  • Plastic table cloths

We’re looking for volunteers and food donations for the Archery Tournament as well.
